As I gripped Silas’s wrist, I watched him ease back to stand before me. We couldn’t see each other clearly, but I could smell him. His scent, his desire—still so inviting. But what I wanted to happen next would be something I hadn’t done in a very long time. Yes, I slept with humans before, but it was never like this. Never this intimate.

“Can we please leave them off for now?” I whispered, my voice fighting not to break. “I want to make you feel just as good as you made me feel back there. Because this is—”

“I understand.”

Even though he could not see me clearly, I looked up at him, startled at the understanding laced in his words. He could have pried. He could have left and called me a prude or something. But Silas just stood before me with his hand over mine.

“If you don’t want to do this right now, I wouldn’t be mad. We’re communicating here, right?” He reached out cautiously to cup my chin in his hand. “None of this is happening unless both of us want it.”

“I was so afraid to see you today without my makeup.”

He sighed and moved his hand from under my chin to my cheek, the tender gesture beckoning a quiet whimper from me. “You’re beautiful.”

“It’s been a very long time since anyone has seen me like this.” I took a moment to exhale softly. My body was shaking perhaps in anticipation and maybe a bit of fear. What we were about to do was beyond anything I ever expected when I first saw him. And now? My heart yearned to be in his possession, even as my brain argued against it.

“We can take our time,” Silas assured me, his thumb continuing to stroke my face delicately. The soothing rhythm of it tempted me to just let go, to give into him completely.

“The makeup is one thing, but…” I bit down on my lip as I watched him, surveying his body language as best as I could with the lack of light. Even without the light, I could feel his eyes on me. I had all of his attention. “I want you to see all of me, Silas, and you will, but for now can you feel me?” I asked, guiding one of his hands to my breast. Even with the thin fabric between us, my skin erupted in goosebumps in response to his touch.

I wondered if he could feel my heart beating against his hand. Could he feel how much I wanted this with him?

“Okay,” I muttered, convincing myself to step back and out of his grasp. I reached behind my neck to undo the clasp on my dress and lower the zipper that kept it fitted to my body. With one last tug, I pulled the straps down and allowed for the dress to pool at my feet. I stood still and waited until I felt his shuddering breath hit my collarbone. Then, he moved. The rustling of pants and other clothing remained the only sound between us.
